For fans of Mexican food, little is more satisfying than trying spicy, authentic Mexican dishes. The Denver metro area has plenty of Mexican restaurants and dishes exemplifying different regions and styles. So, make room in your belly and make your way to these Denver standouts.

D’Corazon

The scoop: Corazon means “heart” in Spanish, and the name is fitting for D’Corazon because it will leave your heart warmed by its mexican dishes. This restaurant sits in the old location of the Las Delicias in LoDo and has a homey vibe with its yellow wallsand service that moves swiftly to make your experience smooth and enjoyable. Arrive early if you’re seeking lunch on a weekday, because the line typically stretches out the door.
D’Corazon recommendation: The carnitas with 28 “secret ingredients.”

La Loma

The scoop: La Loma settled into its new location after moving from Jefferson Park more than a year ago. While the new location is smaller, La Loma still serves the entrees and margaritas that Coloradans fell in love with years ago. This is a great place for a date, a family celebration or a business introduction — or just a tasty margarita and a belly full of food.
La Lloma recommendation: The anniversary plate, a dish that includes a stuffed sopapilla, a chili relleno and a chicken flauta topped with guacamole, sour cream and green chili.

Kahlo’s

The scoop: This is a fantastic option for vegans and meat eaters. Kahlo’s is named after the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and her portraits decorate the restuarant. Know before you go: Kahlo’s doesn’t serve alcohol.
Kahlo’s recommendation: The mole seven chilies, a meal with chicken, carnitas or steak, rice, sesame seeds and tortillas.
